Ritualistic or religious? Egyptians can be said to be both with their method of treating the dead and with their religious writings. Egyptian's form of religion was a major part of an Egyptian person's life including his death. A royal Egyptian gets an elaborately adorned tomb, which is inside a cone-like structure that we call a pyramid. Some experts say that Egypt might have had multiple gods but it is said to be monotheistic from the beginning . They deify one main god with smaller unimportant gods that are revered by different towns or communities. Egypt is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Scientists think that the first people in Egypt were nomads who resided in the southwestern part of Egypt. The nomads are thought to have moved because of agricultural reasons. Scientific research has suggested that the nomads are descendants of what we now call the ancient Egyptians. By 3500 BC, Hierakonpolis became a big and vital administrative and economic center. Hierakonpolis was the start of the period that illustrated a ruler's life on the walls of his tomb. Wisdom was an important part of being an Egyptian, understanding the stars, treating the dead like they were just sleeping, and the final resting places of kings and queens, was what Egyptian life was all about. The disappearance of Orion might have been explained in the mythology of Osiris, "god of the first company". Ancient Egyptian religion is one of the first religions in the ancient world. We could learn a lot from the Egyptians but it is unfortunate that most of their writings were destroyed. Some Egyptologists suggest that the Egyptian stories were made up by the priests to explain unusual sites, like the disappearance of Orion. Egyptian religion might not have persisted through everything, like floods and famine, but its ideas have. African thought did not influence the Egyptians as much as the Semitic thought but there is an important African deity, Bes. Egyptian religion has been dead for the past several thousands of years but it has had an impact on several other religions in the area. A priest had to know about the stars, to know how to write, and to know how to bury the dead. They used their knowledge to make the civilization the most powerful in that area by experimenting with agriculture and by making enormous structures which were surprisingly symmetrical. ' The Egyptians called these pyramids by the name of mer, which means 'the place of ascension' or 'the instrument of ascension' .
