Gatsby, An American Hero
In The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the mysterious Jay Gatsby arouses many different questions about who he really is: foolish, or a victim of the American dream. While he does seem to take part in some foul business in attaining his wealth, and spent his entire life on such an irrational and unachievable goal, his extreme determination to live lavishly, and lifelong commitment to gain back the affection from his love Daisy, make him "great". However, it does leave him susceptible to lousy perceptions of value, and in this case, death. Gatsby's incredible hope and attempts for love make him indeed a figure of the American Dream.
