Management Planning & Ethics Paper

The markets change, costs rise and fall, stocks adjust and this all happens within one day of business. With these variables, companies must make changes to remain successful. Carter McNamara wrote, "Planning, including identifying goals, objectives, methods, resources needed to carry out methods, responsibilities and dates for completion of tasks. Examples of planning are strategic planning, business planning, project planning, staffing planning, advertising and promotions planning, etc. The gathering of information and intelligence requires senior management to delegate responsibility to those doing the work". It appears planning is the most important tool that management has to combat these daily changes.Within the sales department at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills, planning is an everyday activity. Our customers call or email in changes daily. This requires the sales department to make changes to the current plan for production and adjust the scheduled tons for the month and months to come. The company then uses this information to forecast or plan for the year. These daily changes affect everyone in the organization from the board of directors down to the employee wit

Corporations must also be responsible for the environments that they affect around them, both the human life and the land. Ethical decisions are guided by the underlying values of the individual. This decision must be made carefully as to not affect our long term business and relationships. We have a customer that is having a difficult time with their cash flow and hence not paying us on time. If we decide to discontinue supplying them with rail, they could go out of business. Legal IssuesLegal issues plague every organization. With out serious justification and reason for giving price breaks to one account over the other, is a lawsuit waiting to happen. If we continue to involve, legal, ethical, and responsible decisions into the planning of our future, I'm sure we will find success. The knowledge that I have gained over the past six years has taught me that I must be fair to each of these accounts, both ethically and legally. Must a company donate money to the community or charities? It's not a requirement, but it will show that the organization is concerned for the community around them. I and others in our company work toward establishing account plans that try to minimize or eliminate any potential legal issues. Legal responsibilities are to obey local, state, federal, and relevant international laws. The scrap market has changes drastically in the past six months. Most people would agree that all of these values are admirable guidelines for behavior.
