The value of friendship in hamlet
William Shakespeare's Hamlet is one of the greatest tragedies ever known. It touches the reader's heart for its dramatic structure of the play. The play is about a prince who attempts to avenge the death of his father by killing his brother which is King Claudius. During the play, Hamlet uses his actions to try to convince the people that Claudius killed his own brother by poisoning him in his ear. The opening of the scene set off the friendship between Barnardo, Francisco and Horatio. They begin to form a bond between them. Hamlet's relationships with his friends can be easily spotted during the play. Horatio is the only person that proves the loyalty and the essence of true friendship that he had with Hamlet throughout the play. His relationship with Rosencrantz and Guildens
People should choose their friends carefully even if it means that they are different in the positions of society. For example: When they are outside Elsinore Castle, they all saw the appearance of a ghost that Barnardo and Francisco saw the other day and they urge Horatio to stay with them. The level of friendship between them becomes stronger and stronger as the play moves along. Horatio does not want to lose Hamlet because he really cares about Hamlet. They swore to keep this a secret that shows how loyal they are between each other. Friendship played a big role in the play with its dialogue among true friends and false friends. There are different kinds of friendship that adapts during the play. In the beginning of the play, friendship is present between Barnardo, Francisco and Horatio. Even though there is a difference in their positions, meaning that Hamlet is from a loyal family and Horatio is a commoner. Shakespeare really demonstrates the effectiveness of friendship between the characters which relates to people in the world. Friendships did not just develop but was also shattered. At the end of the play, Horatio tries to convince Hamlet not to fight Laertes because he had a feeling that the King and Laertes are planning to kill Hamlet. The connection between becomes stronger because of the shared experiences they had. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern however were not friends with Hamlet and also were not enemies. There is nothing that can bring them together except the power of friendship they have together.
