Pride and Prejudice

Manners are defined as a way one acts in society. Usually one is asked to act properly, in a fashion that represents the person's social class or the way the person would like to be viewed by society. Depending on the social class, cultural background and religion, manners differ. When most people think of manners they do not think of being rude, instead the thoughts of being kind and polite come to mind. Often one thinks that manners improve with wealth and social status. The book Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen proves this wrong. This book shows that when someone reaches a certain level in society their manners become less apparent. In Pride and Prejudice, Lady Catherine de Bourgh demonstrates this quiet well. Miss Bingley follows in Lady Catherine de Bourgh's footsteps. In Pride and Prejudice reputation influence manners, which enables one to do what is morally right.Lady Catherine de Bourgh is a character in Pride and Prejudice. She is a noble woman who lives at Rosings in a small town in England. She is exceedingly wealthy. Lady Catherine believes that she is better then everyone else.
