Jennifer Connelly
Jennifer Connelly has, just within the last few years, emerged as a powerhouse actress in her own right. True, I concede that Winslet HAS garnered more nominations in various award categories, but after a blockbuster movie like "Titanic," it's only natural that she would be offered just about any role available, and I do give her credit for choosing wisely. However, although we are not here to debate their respective levels of fame, it is nevertheless important to keep in mind that recognition for challenging and critically acclaimed roles generally emerge only AFTER public acknowledgement. Up until "A Beautiful Mind," Jennifer Connelly was largely unknown to the world despite her rendezvous with fame back in the 80s after "Labyrinth." While "Requiem for a Dream" brought her to the attention of various directors, namely Ron Howard, it wasn't until the completion of "A Beautiful Mind" that finally set her star in motion. "A Beautiful Mind" did for Connelly what "Titanic" did for Winslet - it put the actress on the map and brought about opportunities for further success.
" I hardly think this resume is in any way, shape, or form short of Ms. She has gone from being a ballerina in "Etoile," to an idealistic magazine editor who comes to understand the atrocities committed by Chilean dictatorship in "Of Love and Shadows"; from a mysterious woman claiming to be the spouse of John Murdoch in "Dark City," to a radical government activist whose amorphous presence throughout "Waking the Dead" haunts her love. Winslet's own fine achievements as an actress. With resumes that are, in effect, both laudable, what remains is just personal preference. " I find that, beyond the realms of Connelly's exceptional roles and awards, she has found a creative rhythm to each character that makes them impossible to overlook and inevitably brilliant in presentation. If you actually read the novel, you'll understand what he means; Kathy Niccolo in the novel is much more blue-collared and trashy, a character that would not conjure the image of the gorgeous Jennifer in any careful reader's mind. Likewise, Jennifer has done her fair share of diverse roles, although many don't seem to know her range because her fame came after "A Beautiful Mind" and therefore audiences tend to only recognize her for roles she did after that deservingly succesful film. As for the role in "House of Sand & Fog" - Connelly signed on to it PRIOR to the Oscar win, which may explain why it wasn't offered to her first. cia Nash short of the Oscar win in any way, shape, or form; her win was anticipated and expected even amongst the toughest of critics - other nominees in that category were merely dark horses, even the illustrious Ms. More importantly, however, director Vadim Perelman explains that despite his insistence on her casting, producers and casting directors felt that Connelly didn't seem to physically fit the profile of Kathy - simply put, she was too beautiful for the part. Jennifer, he believed, understood the character in ways that he himself couldn't even perceive. I stand by my opinion and regard Jennifer Connelly as an astounding actress who has deservingly garnered my personal respect and appreciation above that of Kate Winslet.
