ObsessionThe Crucible Tree of Hope Frida Kahlo

Obsession through text such as the Crucible by Arthur Miller and Frida Kahlo's Artwork Tree Of HopeObsession, Being obsessed...What does it mean? Do u have an obsession? Allow me to help you.Obsession is described as a compulsive preoccupation with a fixed idea or an unwanted feeling or emotion, often accompanied by symptoms of anxiety or a compulsive, often unreasonable idea or emotion. The text The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a perfect example of obsession, it demonstrates a number of obsessions held within a community set in the times of an outrage of a Salem witch hunt. There were many struggles for power in the play, where many character's felt the need to be in charge and highly respected, Parris for example says " I have fought here for 3 longs years to bend these stiff necked people to me, and now, just now when some good respect is rising for me in the parish, you compromise my very character." Parris displays the obsessive need for power and respect in the town in terms of his status. The obsession of religion is very strong in the play where we see many characters referring a great deal to god. "A man may think god sleeps, but god see's everything, "God help me" "it

Following this, as a result of such indescribable happenings we are faced with unexplainable circumstances, such as the one faced by Mrs Putnam where she miscarried 7 times, all of which cannot be explained. Frida also has a small flag in her hand with the inscription Tree of hope stay firm, this is fridas way of communicating to herself that she needs to hold on and keep going strong. A second example of obsession deals with the obsession of an individual. For there's your way, believe it, there is your only way, when such confusion strikes upon the world. Particularly Abigail where she continuously lies to fool people"Why why do you come yellow bird? Envy is a deadly sin mary! No I cannot I cannot stop my mouth, its god work I do" all perfect examples of Abigails obsessive lying habit. Obsession is an extremely emotional, in depth, difficult concept to understand So what role does obsession play in your life? . Therefore as a result of these unexplainable circumstances we point the finger to witchcraft. These two figures are situated on a deeply eroded desert landscape with the contrast of the sun bright on one side and the moon and darkness on the other side. Lies are another obsessive topic demonstrated in the play through many characters in many forms. Does all of this sound strange to you? It all seems a little uncanny right? That's what I thought, Sadly this is obsession. What about fire and the boot of Lucifer these are signs of the devil and sins, its referring to the wrong doer. Following this there is also seen to be a great deal of revenge being sought from many. Throughout the crucible we see a lot of symbolism through such words as "wind moving" this gives a sense of a spirit moving around "being naked" is a symbol of being vulnerable, "She is cold your honour touch her" The term cold is referred to as death.
