Chicano income vs white income
There are many important issues concerning the Chicano community in the United States, like health care, discrimination, education, and many others. But one of the most noticeable and most important to me is the difference between the Chicano income and the White income. I am interested in this issue because its something that is happening today and it is affecting people I know and me. I'm worried that when I work professionally my income will different than that of a white person if we are performing the same job and if we have the same education and experience. I want to know why are Chicano's income different than that of a white person and what could we do to change that. What are the differences in income? What has the Chicano been doing in the past that has placed him in this situation? Has there been any narrowing down of this income inequality between the Chicano and the White? Chicanos are the fastest growing minority population in the United States and if the difference in incomes continues the whole nation could be affected because of this difference. Because an enormous amount of people would be earning much differently than that of the other group, and this could affect the United States economy. By the year 202
In California as of 1989, the wages of Mexican American men were on average 25% lower than the wages of white men. The earnings of Mexican American women are the most adversely affected of all gender and ethnic groups. I think that intergeneration of education is very important between the Chicano community. every time one drives by a Chicano community and then an Anglo community you will notice a major difference you will notice a cleaner environment, nicer streets, bigger houses in the Anglo community. For example, blacks are in a similar situation as Chicanos. Nearly one third of Chicanos are concentrated in just three job categories like operators, fabricators or laborers. Doing this research I gain knowledge about the Chicano economy in general. In California 20% of the population is of Mexican decent. There are more young Chicanos in the United States than older Chicanos, they also have less experience and skills so their income is less. Fogel stated, " The commonly accepted adage that education is the key or social mobility for social minorities is also called into question by the Mexican American study project, which reported that even when educational attainment is controlled, Chicanos are much lower than the Anglo income" ( Mirande, 44). Therefore Chicanos sell tamales, elotes, they sell at swap meets etc. Mexican Americans are also one of the most economically disadvantaged groups in the United States with an average household income 40% below the comparable for white. To earn extra income to support their families, it has become popular for Chicanos selling on the side. Even though a certain topic is exposed in this research, there are more topic questions to be answered including this research topic, because only a few questions were asked and answered and there are many more.
