Beneatha‘s radical ways of acting

             A raisin in the sun narrates the story of a family struggling to live on Chicago's south side, somewhere between the 1950's in the period of the Civil Rights movement. This may be the cause for this play to deal with problems such as poverty, segregation, oppression and culture. This play presents the lives of people whose hopes and dreams are constantly postpone. The main characters of this play are Walter, Mama, Ruth and Beneatha. In the play the characters development is the most important thing, each character previously presented uncover his way of acting towards the problems they are confronting. We have characters who assume positions from passive to radical; each of them acting how they feel is the right way of responding. The character who captivated my attention from the beginning to the end of the play was Beneatha. Beneatha is a young woman who dreams of having bright future; she is smart and plans to study medicine in order to become a doctor. Throughout the play, she encounters a series of problems that attempt to destroy everything she has ever dream. She responds explosive to all this situations she confronts through the play. Beneatha radical way of acting was a way of expressing her frustration and need for freedom of the oppression they (black Society) were living.
             Beneatha was the youngest of the characters in the play besides Travis, and this is one of the reasons that made her react radically. At this age, the urge of freedom is explosive and this young woman was living under strict pressure from society, her family, and herself. She needed to feel free to make her own decisions about her beliefs, Identity, partner and education. This is why, when someone tried to make these decisions for her she got mad and act rebellious.
