Tuesdays with morrie

             In the book, Morrie states, "Everybody knows they are going to die, but nobody believes it. If we did, we would do things differently." That is a quote that fits society today to the fullest. In the back of the average person' mind is death. It is one of the last topics to be thought about. Many people, especially younger, tend to say that dying is something that "won't happen until they get older." But sometimes, death can come so quickly and so surprisingly. If your not living the way that you want to, and your not happy, it can end up being one of the greatest regrets of all.
             Since he and Morrie lost touch over the course of sixteen years, Mitch has been living a high life in the material world. He's had a good job that he's making good money doing. He can afford nice cars, and fancy things, but those objects are not the keys to happiness. Money can't buy happiness. I think Mitch needs to change the greediness in his life. He is so fixated on being the best, that he forgets the most important things in life. He puts his wife, family and friends behind his work. This is probably one of the leading reasons why he is unhappy. His marriage could be so much better if he payed attention to his wife, Janine. Also, his relationship with his brother, Peter, is basically nonexistent. Mitch shrugged him off a while ago because he was so self involved. Now, that Mitch finds out that Peter is sick, is when he wants to better things. It takes death to be laid out on the table in order for people to start thinking. Mitch now does things a lot differently with his brother.
             I think the most important thing Mitch learned to do, was to cry. A build up for emotions is not good for your mind. Once Mitch cried, he was a lot more open and comfortable with himself. I think it took a big lift off his shoulders.
