Personal Statement
I am in my fifth year at Coleraine High School and I am enjoying my time here. I am looking forward to continuing my studies here for AS and A Level. I hope to study English Literature, as an AS Level, along with Biology, Home Economics and Information and Communication Technology. I then hope to carry the latter three subjects through to A Level. I prefer subjects that involve using my imagination, such as English and I.C.T., and those that also have a largely practical side to them, such as Home Economics and I.C.T. I feel Biology also widens my knowledge of our living environment and I think it will compliment Home Economics well at an advanced level. In school I am a regular attendee of Chess
I consider myself to be an empathetic person. In the summer of 2000, I went on a trip to Switzerland with the unit and another company from Killarney in the South of Ireland. I feel I relate well to people of all ages and I like to help them where I can. I spend my weekends working in a hotel/restaurant in Coleraine, as a waitress. I have also been trained for meals staff and have silver service training, which is used for functions such as wedding receptions, etc. From first year (1998) to third year (2001), I enjoyed being a member of our school Guide unit. I have also learnt what it means to work as a team and I have developed my social skills. I get on well with people my own age and have made some very good friends in school. I gained an enormous amount of confidence and met most of my good friends there. Working in the hotel has meant I have become more mature and responsible. This trip was a good experience for me as it helped me to make 'cross-community' links and let me attempt a number of activities that I would probably not have ever tried, such as white water rafting. I must greet customers, show them to their table, take orders and use the till. Guides also taught me how to work as part of a team and to empathise with others.
