The Media

             Have you ever wondered why the media would sometimes go to extreme measures to try and emit a certain feeling from you? Well, because most people watch TV, surf the Internet, or read the newspaper to get their daily news, the media is trying to sway the public into thinking one way or another about a controversial topic using pictures.
             The most common example of this is when the media often uses sexually arousing images in the media's advertising industry to try and sell their product. In this era of sexual freedom in the media, companies will try anything to sell their merchandise, even if it means having an attractive-looking, scantily clad woman try to entice people into doing so. But some commercials end up influencing people for other reasons that are not related to the product itself. For example, Britney Spears doing Pepsi advertisements in her skimpy clothing may have affected the self-perceptions of teenage girls wanting to have the perfect body to attract guys. And these ads are held responsible for both the eating disorders that these girls begin to have while striving to achieve that goal, and the violations of school dress codes that result from these girls mimicking pop stars' sexually suggestive clothing. Similarly, the restaurant chain Hooters is airing commercials that feature their large-breasted waitresses that wear tight shirts and short shorts aiming to draw adult male customers. Nowadays, it seems as if sex will sell products, no matter who the target audience is.
             The media also uses images to try to affect the choices or opinions one has when it comes to a controversial topic. When Kobe Bryant was being charged with sexual assault, the media, who once thought of Bryant as the 'nice guy' in a league marred by players with criminal records, depicted him as a rapist.
