Personal Values - red hot chili peppers - under the bridge
Under the bridge is written in first person by the lead singer of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony, and directly relates to part of his life. It shows what the author is thinking about his life, and how he feels about it. He Speaks about himself in an almost schizophrenic way, impacting the sever ness of such drug riddled life. Anthony sings about how much he values Heroin as being the only thing in his life worth living for anymore. He says this through Personification which is used when talking about
Heroin is represented as such a powerful force in his life that it has taken it over, clearly a value that is destructive to himself, and he is trying to rid himself of. He says the city is his only friend, the only thing that sees him do anything good, and goes to say that the only love he feels is from the city. The tone of the song is of a depressed sort, and as the song continues it climax's to a kind of release of sadness which is expressed through choir singing, as though the author has just released a very emotional story in his life. the city, saying it gives him windy kisses, and drives with him on the streets. This shows how much of a connection and dependence he feels for Heroin, how it is something that will always be with him in the back of his mind. He seems to be in self denial at the beginning of the song but later comes to realize that his lifestyle has ruined him, and even says that it took his life away. This song is great example of how dangerous heroin can be that someone values a substance that much that it has become part of him is obviously of negative influence. This is a metaphor for being under the influence of Heroin, and the way it affects one into feeling unnatural warmth and sedated relaxation.
