The secret history vs the bacchants

The novel of Donna Tartt 'The Secret Hystory' has many similarities with the play of Euripides 'The Bacchants', but the differences are too contrasting beteween each other that it is safe to say that 'The Secret Hystory' is definetly not a modern day version of 'The Bacchants'.The themes are very different to the point where they contradict each other, the thenes of 'The Bacchants', that is Fear the gods and follow blindly the gods, is completely different and opposite to the thenes of 'the secret hystory' which is to think ahead and know what effects will an action bring before doing any action. In the other hand the themes from 'The Bacchants' almost urge you to have complete submission to the gods, that's why the theme between the bacchants and the secret history contradict each other.A similatiry is that both themnes of both the novel and the play teach us that if we don't follow their respective themes, we will end up in a tragic en like the charactes of the 'bacchants' and 'the secret hystory'. If you look back at the theme's differences paragraph you will see that the themes contradict each other in the aspect of instructions yet, Donna Tartt uses a similar outcome for her characters to the characters of 'The Bacc

They are the one that end up killed by a close person, another easy similarity is the one that Julian have with Dionysus, they both were the ones that were on top of everything, the ones that changed the minds of the others whether trying t manipulate or not. The structure of ¨The Bacchants¨ and ¨The Secret History¨ are very different in many aspects, they are different in point of view, ¨The Bacchants¨ is in play form and ¨The Secret History¨ is in first person point of view, another difference is the plot order, ¨The Bacchants¨ has a very simple plot structure, while ¨The Secret History¨ is composed of flashbacks, and does not follow a strict chronological order, the end is on the first pages, and lastly ¨The Bacchants¨ because it is a play, it occurs in present time, unlike ¨The Secret History¨ which occurs in the past. The main difference of the plot between 'The Bacchants' and ' The Secret History' are that that Dionysus followers practiced the rituals because they were cursed by Dionysus, but the greek class students did the ritual by their own because they were curious, in other words, the greek students didtheritual by their own will, while the Dionsysus followers had no chice but to follow Dionysus because they were being mind controlled by Dionysus. hants', in other words, Donna Tart is Criticizing Euripides play ' The Bacchants'. In the characters aspect, although it may not be seen obvious from the beginning there are remarkable differences between the characters of ¨The Bacchants¨ and ¨The Secret History¨, each character have different roles, for example, Julian and Dionysus , they may seem very similar, yet they have some important differences, Dionysus controlled his followers with his god-like powers, in other words Dionysus controlled his followers directly, and by Pentheus, Dionysus was not considered a god, unlike Julian which in fact was considered a god yet he did not had the god power, and Julian, unlike, Dionysus, did not controlled is followers, all Julian did was to teach and suggest what to do, Julian always left the students with their won liberty to choose what to do. Dionysus was so powerful that Pentheus´s army would be no problem for the mighty god. In the other hand, ¨The Secret History¨ has the end at the beginning. The similarities of the characters are very superficial, and misleading, if one does not understand first the differences, a similarity of character wold be Bunny and Pentheus. There are no similarities in terms of structure between both papers, one is a play and the other one is a novel, ¨The Bacchants¨ follows a chronological order of beginning, climax, and conclusion or ending. Another difference is that Bunny was killed because he was threatening the security of the others, Julian included, but Pentheus died because Dionysus wanted to kill him for mere pleasure, as Euripides suggests, Dionysus was so powerful that Pentheus´s army would be no problem for the mighty god. Dionysus did not had the necessity to kill Pentheus, unlike Henry and the others that they had no choice but to kill Bunny for their own sake. The novel and the play are very similar yet quiet not the same in the plot aspect, they both have the Dionysus ritual, which in both equally, in the one that brings the problem to the characters, both their climax are about the killing of a close person, a friend or a family member, by the orders of the god, in ¨The Bacchants¨case in Dionysus, and in ¨The Secret History¨, Julian. This is a major plot difference that is one of the key plot differences that Donna Tratt uses to change the theme of her novel from the play of Euripides, because in her play the students are made guilty of takingthe wrong choices for not knowing what the outcomes would be, but in "The Bacchants" one cannot blame Agave because she was being controlled by the force of Dionysus.
