Utopia

             Perfect societies never last. We learn in life that everything comes with a good and a bad. When we try to erase the bad, the society loses its balance and disaster occurs. My argument isn't that we should let evil and mischief rule the society but by closing our eyes on them, it will be like we are fooling ourselves. The two works that shows the failure of utopia perfectly to me is, the movie The Village directed by, M. Night Shyamalan and the short story The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe. In these two works the authors show us how the people in each story were trying so hard to get away from the evil and problems in society, but the problems ended up haunting them just like everybody else.
             The movie The Village, was a story based on a couple of people who were harmed by the cruelty in the society, so they decide to move in the woods and create an ideal world for themselves, their children and, the rest of their family. They made homes, reproduced, and tried to create a utopia , which money had no meaning, there was no crime, no hard work and people seemed to be happy. They raised their children without telling them anything about the world outside of this small village. They scared the children by saying there are monsters in the wood so they wouldn't be curious about what's on the other side of the forest, this wall they created to separate themselves from the rest of the world.. It's in the human nature to be naturally curious about the unknown, but they thought fear will rule over curiosity. They create a world based on lies and stupidity. Brainwashing their children seemed like the only right thing to them to do. The human specie has worked year and years to come up with cures for disease, technological supplies, and etc., so we have easier lives and be in less trouble and hard work.
