An Analysis of the X-files
For the purpose of writing the following essay I have chosen to analyze an episode of the long-running television series "The X Files." The episode in question was viewed on Sunday night on the local Los Angeles Fox channel. Our analysis will deal with the significant theme of the episode in question and its connection to an evaluation of the central male protagonist. First, let us examine the subject of the episode in question. As is usually the case with any episode of "The X Files" it begins with a mysterious situation dealing usually with a major crime such as murder, abduction, or theft. The circumstances of the crime are typically so unusual that local authorities and law enforcement are baffled and cannot make any sense of the clues they discover. Therefore, they call on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for help and guidance. The FBI has two detectives working in a small department called "The X Files" who specialize in investigating strange cases related to unusual phenomena. These agents are the Main protagonists of the series: Fox Moulder and Dana Scully. Moulder is a man and Scully is a woman. Even though they are different in character and temperament, they work together as a team and possess a close and pl
In the aforementioned episode, their typical characteristics are brought out in a clash of personalities that, although different, complement each other well. By a process of careful elimination Moulder and Scully discovered that the murderer was type of human mutant who consumed his food in the manner of a spider eating its meals. Men only died when the perpetrator considered them a danger that had to be eliminated. In the episode examined, a man and a woman are eating in a small cafe enjoying what appears to be an intimate conversation with hints of romance in the air. They were discussing literature and the man informed her that he translated Italian books in to English for a living. The more an individual got closer to discovering the perpetrator, the more its risk of being killed increased; and usually, the result was death. Finally, Moulder's more philosophical side appeared at the end of the episode after speaking to the arrested murderer. The curiosity of the FBI agents increased when it was discovered that the corpse and the pool of organic matter on which it was lying contained all essential human organic matter except body fat. Moulder is the example of the open-minded investigator willing to entertain the wildest ideas and assumptions about a case when all logical explanations simply cannot describe the reality he is witnessing. After this was over, the scene shifted to the man leaving the apartment while in the background the body of the woman could be seen. The man followed her into her room, embraced her, and while approaching her face in a kissing gesture, he forced her mouth open and expectorated into her mouth his very thick saliva. He would force open his victim's mouths and dump in them his thick saliva which contained enzymes that melted the body of its victims from the inside out and partially digested the human fatty tissue that he then absorbed as his main source of nourishment. She is a modern woman who sometimes loses patience with her partner's more wily ideas and beliefs. His attempts at explaining unusual phenomena are not limited by mere facts or by the conventions of the modern scientific approach to investigating crime. That final food for thought gave the ending of the episode a sobering twist and a warning to the audience about the potential each person has for being or becoming a monster under certain extreme circumstances.
