Evolution of Canada During 1920
Throughout history countries have evolved over time and Canada is no exception. In the decade of the twenties Canadian woman were given new roles and esteem within society. In addition technology in Canada improved vastly during the 1920's and prohibition opened new doors for Canadian families. The 1920's were a time of advancement for Canada and its population at large.Much technological advancement were established During the 1920's. Canada's economy soared to new heights as results of these advancements. New inventions that were once unaffordable could now be enjoyed by the typical Canadian family. One such technology, the dial telephone became the hot item to own. With the first regular dial telephone without a crank appearing in Toronto in 1924. By the end of the 1920's almost three-quarters of Canadian homes have telephones. This is a big difference considering only one quarter of Canadian homes had phone at the start of the 1920's. The telephone not only served as a mode of communication but a mode of unification throughout the Canadian nation. Before the telephones wide spread use the communication between the
east and west coast was a mundane and lengthy process. Exemplifying the new found freedom of females, flapper hit the scene in the 1920 and they hit it hard! Flappers were viewed as strong and free and they were. With hemlines creping up to just above the knee and waist lines disappearing total, the "boyish look" gave woman a feeling of being free and not having to conform to the views of others. The strength was gained by technological advancement, equality for women and positive effects of prohibition. But during the period of the 1920's change was not only positive but reinforcing the strength of the nation and the unification of Canada. The use of the automobile much like the telephone also began to unify the Canadian nation, making it possible to interact, without using a steam engine train. The belief is that alcohol served as a mean and excuse for many men to abuse and many females as well. Alberta's "famous five" advanced woman's rights by changing laws so that woman would be fairly represented and treated. The 'Model-T' was the fist car to roll off the assembly line, and into the hearts of the Americans and Canadians. The "famous five" even went as far as going to the supreme court of Canada to have there case heard. Although many alcohol beverage loving Canadian say this as a bad idea, Prohibition saw numerous positive reaction in society. This movement and improvement to society in Canada in the 1920's enriched and improved the nation as a whole, not only giving feminist right, but putting Canada on the map as a country of equality. They were against the thought of acceptable feminism behaviors and because of this they came to symbolize the 1920's and the movement in every day woman. In the 1920's Canadian women began numerous movements to be treated as equal's to there male counterparts.
