Advertising: Sex Appeal and the Tricks of the Trade

             While reading "Seventeen," a magazine targeting youth, I was often oblivious to the fact that many of the articles or products that caught my attention were not only accompanied by big lettering and loud colors but also by many other types of appeals that I had for so long overlooked. The portrayal of sex and sexual acts is evident in advertising not only by their often catchy phrases but also by an image of either male or female personas concentrating on specific parts of the body, depending on what product they are trying to market. The marketing technique also includes the use of body image and recent trends to target the younger audiences.
             Advertising is everywhere nowadays. We see advertising in television, t-shirts, newspapers, the sides of buses, billboards, and magazines. With the vast amount of advertising that there is out there, companies are often trying to find new and distinct ways to promote their product. Often, the product that they want to advertise is placed within reach of the prospect customers, -the target consumer. With all of the advertising, there are only so many things that a vendor can do to attract the attention of the masses to their particular product. Throughout the years advertising has developed into a multi-million dollar corporation that has used the latest of technology as a means of getting the word out. Since the first advertised Kodak camera to the ever-growing Cover Girl make up the corporation, advertising has not only become a common way to spread the word on the latest product but has become a crucial part of keeping companies in business.
             As you might have already noticed one of the more familiar propaganda approaches that advertisers use to promote their product is the use of sex appeal.
