Animal liberation

People use these two terms, liberation± and right±, when we seek for our freedom and equality against something which is not just and fair, such as Gay Liberation and Gay Rights, or Women's Liberation and Women's Rights. However, usually the term liberation± is more likely imprints us with successful and peaceful movements, whereas the term right± reminds us any stubborn resistance. In order to express the privilege of animals and their equality, Peter Singer, the author of Animal Liberation±, uses the term animal liberation± throughout his writing hoping it would be successful movements with support of everyone. Because animals are too different in various ways with human beings, and most importantly, they are anyhow deeply involved in our everyday lives spontaneously, defending animals doesn't seem to attract people. However, by defining the element factor of why they should be treated equally, and by explaining the cruel situations they face, Singer surely captures reader's mind and conveys messages that human should not be torment or kill animals, but should change their attitudes and behaviors toward them. Therefore in this essay, I will describe Singer's position, including why animals should be t

And I ,who giggled while dissecting, became murderer of the same creature after all. I am not saying that I am totally against those kinds of animal killings and torments, or we should all become vegetarians as a result, because I, also as an individual in this society, surely get advantages and benefits from doing that. At first, we fixed frogs to the plates driving nails in their four legs. We wear leathers and furs because they not only protect us, but also help us look cool. As we went into the class, our eyes were automatically turned upon the twelve huge frogs lying in the cold, stainless experimental plates with many eerie pieces of nails and scissors beside. ± We are the smartest and most talented. Then how do we know that they can suffer? According to Singer, we know that animals do suffer by behavioral signs and knowledge of the animal's biological similarity to ourselves±. For example, the floor size of a cage for four or five hens is only 20 inches by 18 inches. That is the way of a whole human being. Since there is no federal law regulates any specific case of testing on animals, there are almost 80 million experiments that were performed since 1969 in the U. Since animals are not able to demand their liberty or happiness, or since they cannot protest, vote, or present their position, we should be in charge of their lives and liberty because we are rational animals. They live there for a year or eighteen months, and they are fed drugs which maximize the numbers of eggs out of them. For instance, experimenters use LD50±, the standard test for foodstuff to find the dosage level, which cause 50% of the test animals to die; the rest of them also become very sick. According to Singer, animals are not only used for important medical research, but also the huge numbers of them are used in universities as educational tools, and used for commercial purposes, to test whether it causes skin or eye irritation, and to test any unsafe side effects as a result of the consuming products. For quite a time, I was half scared and half astonished by the facts that even frogs have throbbing hearts which are very assemble as ours and I was the one who killed them, without feeling guilty, just because I wanted to look at them inside.
