THE COLORS IN THE GREAT GATSBY In F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, the author uses colors to symbolize various scenes and the moods of different characters. Each of the colors has a specific meaning, and the author does an excellent job in assigning these colors to specific characters and situations. The author uses the color green most often, and in most cases it symbolizes feelings related to loneliness and jealousy. In addition to the color green, the author also uses the color white to signify wealth, and the color yellow to relate to aging and decaying. We notice that he envies him for not having that sort of luxurious car, and the green leather interior symbolizes this envy. The gray atmosphere surrounding the setting represents the bleakness of their insolvent situation.
