Great American BallPark

             My journey through www.ballparks.com, a virtual field trip, was something less than an amazing adventure for a girl that is not big on baseball much less baseball parks. Having been to only a few minor league ballparks and no major league parks, I quickly realized that I had no idea what I was viewing on the web site. The first problem was understanding the difference between the National and the American Leagues. The second problem was trying to contact my father. After listening to my father share his enthusiasm for baseball and the web site, I learned that there is a difference in ballparks and that a new trend seems to be developing. And then out from the screen jumps the plans for the Great American Baseball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.
             Once I saw the picture of the New Great American Baseball Field I fell in love with the whole idea of it. If you denote a slight degree of sarcasm I humbly apologize. One of the more prominent features of this future park is that it is on the Ohio River. I am originally from Ohio and spent several years growing up along that river, so you can understand my excitement. Following the current trend, the new stadium is taking on the look of the old style stadiums from the early 20th century. It has the open-air feel of an older park and a real grass playing surface. The structure of the New Great American Baseball field is looking to its past as the exterior of the park will be brick and follow some of the design of the old Crosley Field. They are even matching some of the structure to a local bridge in an effort to blend into the surrounding area of Cincinnati. All of this effort to return to the past seems to be aimed at keeping or returning fans to the game of baseball.
