Reflection

             Its apparent as I put together my portfolio that I have progressed as a writer. I can follow the development of my writing skills as the little numbers written on the right margin start to disappear. Those little numbers used to be littered all over my writing, but now there are few that are present. a. Catching spelling errors was a key improvement I made during this class. I realized that didn't pay attention to common spelling errors, and that I needed to. After the class about modifiers, I started to notice that I was occasionally guilty of writing modifiers. I didn't even know about modifiers before this class, but now I look for them. The most important thing I learned is how to set up quotations and site my references.
             Although I have made significant improvements in my writing, there is always room to improve. One area of writhing that I still need to improve, is using commas and semicolons. After the in-class lesson about commas and semicolons, I was confident that I had them all figured. Now I'm not so sure of myself. I do have a much better understanding of using them, but it is not as solid as it should be. I still use them when they are not needed, leave them out, or misplace them. My most common comma error is leaving a needed comma out. The second aspect of writhing that I'm still improving on, is run-on sentences. I don't write run-on sentences very often and can usually catch them proof reading.
             I'm proud of all my pieces that are included in my portfolio. They are all good representations of my writing ability and how I have improved throughout the term. . The formal essay that I am most proud of is, "Illiterate Slave." After reading the expert from The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, I found the idea that he was not able to express his thoughts and feelings prior to learning to read interesting. I think that in this culture, education is taken for granted
