You will see that this element is in every fairly tale. Either it is between step mother and the princess or an old witch and the children. In this story the good versus evil is between the King and a wise woman. It all began when the King had a daughter, and he order to have a great feast. In the palace lived thirteen wise women. The King only invited twelve because of not having enough plates. At the end of the feast "the Wise Women bestowed their magic gifts upon the baby" (Grimm 161). When eleven of wise women granted their wishes, the uninvited wise woman came and she wished that the princess will prick herself with a spindle and drop dead. But, at the same time Marlinchen (daughter) loves her step brother very much. Hansel is the first to be singled out for consumption and the boy child in "The Juniper Tree" is cooked by the step-mother with the help of her daughter. Even though the family was in crisis of food, the father wanted the family to stay together, but the step-mother wanted to get rid off the children because they had no food. Looking at "Little Briar-Rose" a prince came to see the princess, kissed her hand, and they lived happily ever after. In the case of "Hansel and Gretel" the children came home, and the family lived happily ever after except the step-mother since she was dead. The element of death versus survival comes in when the children stays over an old witch house. In the essay good versus evil comes into play when the step-mother always used to treat her step-son very cruelly, and loved her own daughter very dearly. And this is an element of truth because how you going to find your children when you cannot even afford to feed yourself. In the last essay, "The Juniper Tree" the elements were good versus evil, greediness for money, and death versus survival. Gretel is forced to help the old witch cook Hansel in the oven. The dad ate his son's neck threw all the bones; the girl picked the bones and buried them underneath the juniper tree. When the son came and asked for an apple, the step-mother told him that it is in the chest, and when he opened the chest she slammed the chest on the boy's neck that his neck fell off. One day when Marlinchen asked her mother for an apple for his brother she said no, and threw the apple into a chest. In this fairly tales good part is played by the father and the evil part is played by the step-mother.
