For college
Everyday people are faced with challenges and obstacles. And now more than ever there is a need for people to stand up and overcome them, from things big like the war in Iraq and the soldiers going to battle daily, to things small as a basketball team winning a game in which they are the underdog. And with every challenge and obstacle, comes great responsibility to live up to what your supposed to and face it. I think one of my biggest challenges, which relates to the basketball court, has helped me become a stronger individual and should surely strengthen my candidacy for admission into your college. One of the biggest steps Americans face is making the transition from middle school into high school. This transition alone causes some people to break down and re-think their lives. So for me, I had just moved into a new neighbor-hood where everybody knew each other and were accustomed to one another in and out of the classroom. So for me being the new kid on the block, so to sp
Two big changes took place on the first day of high school for me. And now with so much hype on me this year, I have maintained composure and continue to play well as we are currently on a winning streak. I normally do not brag on my skills or what I can do on the court, but I actually took the whole gym by storm. Coming into high school I was just a boy and with the obstacles brought past me I am turning into a man and hopefully I will be able to finish coming into man-hood at your college. As the first day of try-outs came near, I had to hear talk of how the starting positions were already set from last year's 8th grade team and everything else in between. So as I entered into my high scool, where I now will graduate from 4 long years later in June '05, I knew it was going to be a long and tough road for me. To make a long story short, I now stand as one of the top rated point guards in the state and I have carried the burden and the weight of my high school's men's basketball team on my shoulders as we are coming off a season last year when we won our conference (the last to do so was in the early 90's). Throughout my freshman year I moved up to JV and actually into the rotation with the first game. With many people talking about what they were going to do during the season and me not knowing how anybody played, I thought everybody was going to be far superior to me on the first day of try-outs. The senior hallway had looked like a maze of people to me! The second of the two changes came on the basketball court. Now not to say that my admission into your college should be based solely on my basketball experiences in the past but I think that being able to overcome the obstacles I have on the court, especially, have strengthen my character to where any new challenge I feel I am now man enough to step up to and face it. I came from a school which from K-8 had less than 200 students and now I step foot into one of the biggest populated high schools in Michigan with almost 1200 students. But that in itself is a gift and a curse because not only did people expect me to put up LeBron James-type numbers and hold me on a higher regard, also came the pressure of having to lead a team of people who didn't even know who I was and had envious thoughts. eak, I had to adjust and meet new people, let alone adjust to a whole new climate school-wise.
