The gradual changes of the Macbeths - Act 1 S 3 to Act 3 S 3

             Here Macbeth and Banquo, two best friends, encounter the witches who reveal Macbeth's future titles, Thane of Cawdor and King. Macbeth is intrigued and vaguely skeptical. He wishes them to stay and to tell him more about where and how they get their 'strange intelligence'. Then, once Macbeth finds out that the first part of the prophetic greetings is true, he seems to favour the witches and believes that they gave him the title Thane of Cawdor. He begins speaking to himself, and not including Banquo into his thoughts. Then after Banquo gives him some advice to treat this with caution Macbeth's thoughts turn to the idea of becoming King. He wonders about the intention of the prophecy, 'Cannot be ill, cannot be good', and when he considers the possibility of it not being good he mentions that he is thinking of a 'horrid image' that could be his imagination conjuring up the picture of Macbeth killing Duncan. The fact that he might already be considering that as an option shows that he has a very vivid imagination, is very ambitious and will consider anything to get where he wants. Later, when asked by Banquo what he was thinking so deeply about Macbeth brushes it off and avoids talking about it to his friend. He changes the subject and
             suggests to Banquo that now they speak their 'free hearts each to other'. I think this is a little deceptive of Macbeth as he'd just not revealed his true thoughts.
             Macbeth is warmly welcomed by the King and then finds out that even after he has proclaimed his loyalty to Duncan Malcom was still chosen to succeed the throne. Macbeth finds this troubling and broods to himself. He considers Malcolm position as a 'step on which he must fall down upon, or else o'erleap' which is a rather impersonal way to consider a real person.
