The Crucible

             Mr. Hale went through a dramatic change over the course of the book. In the beginning he was a very well respected and known minister. He is a man of God and is known for his skillful exorcisms. Mr. Parris, when questioned as to why he called Mr. Hale said, "He has much experience in all demonic arts" (Miller 14). Mr. Hale is known all throughout the colony of Massachusetts. Later into the play he turned into a monster that sentenced people to death because of his ignorance. He got carried away tried to rid all of Salem from the devils work. This made him blind with ignorance and he began to condemn people even for a simple flaw. Like how he began to doubt John Procter because he only knew nine out of the Ten Commandments. However, by the end of the play he learned his mistakes and tried to atone for them. At first he quietly voiced his protests but then he was yelling them with out any reserve. He got so serious he quit the court in the end because of the injustice they were committing.
             Injustice this is something Abigail knows a lot about. Abigail, niece of Mr. Harris, was blinded by greed and power. In the beginning of the play she was only a little immature girl trying to have fun. Her only desire was to get rid of Goody Procter. She conjured spells with her friends for fun. When Mr. Harris approached to her about what they were doing she just brushed it off her response was, "Why- common dancing is all" (Miller 42). She was very naive and thought that if Goody Procter was out of the picture she could have John Procter. After she received all the fame and glory she became overtaken by power and greed. She was jealous of the respect Tituba received for confessing and wanted it for herself so she confessed too. She had the power to take revenge on whom ever she choose just by uttering their name.
