Pythagorean Therom

When the name Pythagoras is mentioned, most people (who have taken a geometry or another higher mathematics course) automatically think "the Pythagorean Theorem". But what many people do not know is that Pythagoras contributed a lot more than just "a theorem" to the world of mathematics. From traveling to many cities near and far from his birthplace in Samos, Ionia (569 B.C.), to having a mysterious unknown death, Pythagoras has been placed above many mathematicians as the "first pure mathematician." (Cajori, 17)Details of Pythagoras' life are not of those, which have been documented by him, instead information about Pythagoras' life comes from early bibliographies, which were written by authors whom had grown very fond of Pythagoras and his work(s). The information in this paper was pieced together by various sources that had many major facts that repeated throughout the sources. Some resources have other in order facts about Pythagoras that were not found in any supplementary texts or Internet sites. The research that I chose to incorporate in my paper about Pythagoras was based on what seemed valid and credible. Pythagoras' traveling and learning began at an early age, when he would travel out of Samos with his father

The Pythagorean theorem has been used for thousands and thousands of years. Pythagoras continued to voyage going through Syros, Babylon, Magna Graecia in Southern Italy, and back to Croton. Having a huge a large interest in numbers, Pythagoras also came up with the principles of mathematics. (Kline, 29)Since the Pythagoreans' society continued to grow and attract new members from different lifestyles, the "outsiders" of the society voted to destroy the secret society. But that too, like other pieces of Pythagoras' life, was lost. Pythagoras was threatened once again, and "asked" to leave Tarentum. During those years, Pythagoras was introduced to the "ancient" Thales and his apprentice Anaximander who both lived on Miletus. This is where the information becomes a bit blurry. , the Pythagoreans moved their headquarters to Tarentum, after they were harassed and assaulted by non-Pythagoreans from surrounding cities. Here are a few propositions that Pythagoras' geometry covered: "« The sum of the angles of a triangle are shown to be equal to right angles,"« A plane about a point can be completely filled by equilateral triangles, by squares, or by regular hexagons- the results must have been familiar wherever tiles of the shapes were in common use (similar to tessellations), and "« There are five regular solids ¥inscribable in a sphere, which considered to be the most perfect of all planes. And that is unerringly what he did.
