Islam: Submission to Allah
Islam has not just grown to become one of the most studied religions; it is a way of life in which a billion of people have taken part of. Islam is the submission of its believers to Allah. It does not mean peace in which many have misunderstood the term to be, but the peace they encountered comes through a full submission to God. The whole belief of Islam is that Allah is the only God, and one must accept the message of Prophet and Messenger Muhammad. Muslims are the group of followers in the Islamic religion. They live strict lives according to the Qur'an and ancient traditions. Many Muslims live where the official religion is Islam, in this case many live in the Middle East, and some European countries like Bosnia and Bulgaria. There are many different cultures from where Muslims come from; this can affect the way a Muslim dresses. Some my dress modernly, many keep the tradition styles which include the covered arms, legs, and head. Muslims have rules with eating and drinking as well, they have foods that are permitted, foods that may be eaten but are not encouraged, and foods that are forbidden such as pig meat, any forms of blood, products that contain gelatin, and foods that causes addiction.
They have their own calendar that uses the moon to determine the length of months and the year. They fast every day for a whole month from when the sun goes up to when the sun goes down. When it is time for a Muslim to marry, the Koran allows a man to have up to four wives. A true Muslim child for example, at the time of his or her birth, hears the words " La illah illa Allah wa Muhammad Abduhu wa rassoulu hu". " These words are known as the Bismillah. The Qur'an teaches that men and women should be equal but it also says they have different roles. The prayers they say are called the Taraweeh prayers. "Because fasting requires a strong mind and body, not everyone is supposed to do it. Calligraphy is important because the writing carries the message of God. "Muslims also say that polygamy means that men are less likely to be unfaithful to their wives, and that this reduces the likelihood of unmarried mothers. After the death of Muhammad, his friends collected all of the revelations and put them together into one book. It teaches Muslims how to worship, how to treat other people and how to live good lives. They may not have more that four wives.
