Darwinian Creativity, fact or fiction?
             In his paper, "Could there be a Darwinian Account of Human Creativity?", Daniel Dennett ponders the origins of what society deems art, and whether art has evolved from more primitive acts of construction, or, if like some believe, it is a divine gift that is given only to man. Most artist would most likely argue the latter, saying that it is the spirit that produces the imagery constructed. However, Dennett makes some interesting points that cannot be denied.
             The main focus of this response will center around a medium that is most related to the author, and show more navigatable insights into the evolution of art. Comics are one of the oldest forms of visual communication.
             In this paper we will watch as hieroglyphics make their way through time to eventually grace the newspapers and magazines of every country in the world, all the while keeping our attentions fixed on the question: Is art the product of evolution?
             When stated that comics are one of the oldest forms of visual communication, most would scoff. The notion that comics are "kids' stuff" has been a mainstay in the nations consensus for years. But, let us consider what a comic consists of. The first component of comics that catches the eye is art, more specifically art in sequence. Secondly, comics employ the written word to give the pictorial sequence a flow and purpose. This being understood, it is important to state that comics are a primarily a visual art form.
             From this idea, we explore Dennett's ideas of evolution in art. In order to see the adaptive nature of comics as visual communication, we must travel back in time to see the first appearance of the mediums that form comics.
