Existentialism
The existence of life before birth and after death is a current question, for some people, with no certain answer. From many theories made, philosophers came up with the term of existentialism. Existentialism is a philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe. It regards human existence as unexplainable. In addition, it stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one's act. Existentialism attempts to describe the desire to make rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe. Different philosophers have come up with their own definition for existentialism. Walter Kaufmann, a philosopher who dedicates to the study of existentialism, has come up with his own definition for the term. He says that existentialism is not a philosophy but a label for several widely different revolts against traditional philosophy (
Existentialists have been characterized by the concern for ethics and the philosophy of mind. Fuller, as a philosopher, relates his studies to religion. Kaufmann has been contradicted by many living existentialists. It can be defined by many reasons a person could possibly have, like religion or principles. Among the six topics, he highlights of importance the existence and experience of men based on their intellectual knowledge. To conclude, people know that existentialism is a very difficult term to define. Bochenski, a writer and philosopher of existentialism, defines the term base on his own studies. In his explanations, he defines the term as a rebellion or uprising to traditional philosophy. Bochenski, in his book European Philosophy writes and relates the six most common existential themes. In general, Bochenski supports and emphasizes existentialism through the person as the subject of matter.
