Endentured Slaves
The indentured Servants and the slave trade started in the 17th through the 19th century. There were many differences and similarities between slaves and indentured servants. Some of the differences between them were race, social class, the terms of slavery, and there were advantages and disadvantages, like money and work conditions. Indentured servants were poor white people from England, because of their ignorance, hunger and other needs, they were framed and forced to sign a contract with a master to work in America usually for a term four to seven years. Women were raped and had no legal protection. Like the black slaves, the indentured servants were obligated and forced to come to America in many different ways, most of them were brought based on lies and or abuse of power, the indentured servants were considered slaves too. Some of the many prohibitions they had were that they could not receive education, they could not move or travel, they were not allowed to buy or sell anything. In difference of the indentured servants the black slaves did not have a work contract or any kind of guaranteed or hope that they were going to be free again; they did not get paid either. The indentured servants were discriminated for being socially different or low class by the colonist, and the slaves for their color. Even the racial prejudice among the white colonist and the language made a difference in their luck and in their intentions of escape for freedom, since the indentured servants were white, and often spoke English, the ones that ran away were difficult to capture and had more chances of freedom than the black slaves. Some of the male indentured servants were skilled laborers, doing such jobs as bricklayer, joiner, cook, clerk, coachman, butcher, and musician. Both, slaves and indentured servants had no rights, for example they could not vote or do anything without the permission of their master. They both experience the cruelty and the pain of being slaves. Black slaves did not have that many options; the majority was used to work at plantations that grew rice, sugar, tobacco, and others. They were considered as inferior, many slaves and indentured servants died because of diseases and excessive work, their lives meant nothing to their masters or colonists. Only the indentured slaves with contracts that agreed to work and not force to work got away from such painful living situations. They were forced to work like animals without any consideration.
