Plagiarism
What kind of action or behavior is plagiarism? The answers are varieties. Also, people in a different culture have their own concepts of plagiarism. In many countries especially in Asian countries, either parents or instructors always expect their children or students who can study hard and have good opportunities to achieve their goals to become successful people. This notion has ingrained into everyone's mind for a long time no matter people immigrate to somewhere else. The students are in order to reach their expectations; they always make a lot of efforts to perform well in school. However, it may cause students to think some methods which are considering plagiarism to maintain their grades in school. How is the distant learning and group study examination? Are they on the list of plagiarism? It depends on what type of culture people are educated. So, comparing to the United States, in my country, Taiwan, has dissimilar concepts of plagiarism.
Students can discuss questions or exchange opinions to each other but not doing it on the examination. In conclusion, those explanations such as distance learning, group discussion, and the copyright problem are examples of different concepts of plagiarisms. Students who take this class only receive a teacher's lecture from another school by watching television. Then, the more the students use those beautiful words and sentences in writing class; the better the essay they will have. Reversely, in the United States, the schools provide numerous and a variety of distance learning courses for students. It is a plagiarism action for Taiwan's students. Reversely, my country does not practice this method for examination because educators or instructors expect students can learn and memorize everything by themselves. Third, in my country, teachers always force students to memorize everything from textbooks especially in Chinese writing class. However, some of the students like this practice, but some are not. It is a good method for students to improve their learning and education, but it provides some chances for them to ask someone to work on their assignments. In addition, the teachers do not educate students to put quotation to make this sentence. Before taking this class, the students need to make a lot of efforts to memorize abundant Chinese slang and sentences which was written by famous people such as Confucius. In my opinion, people have dissimilar notions of evaluating plagiarism because they are educated in different culture background. In my opinion, this kind of action is a consideration of plagiarism.
