Should home schooling by encouraged in your country
Should home schooling be encouraged in your country?cIn Texas we view home schooling as something to be respected and something to be protected' ----- George W. Bush In this essay we shall look into the issue of home schooling and how it is a two pronged sword that could have both potential benefits and detriments to the development of the child and Singapore as a whole. I however personally feel that the potential benefits of home schooling should be advocated locally because of the higher educational quality, the potential security and safety issues that entail such a bold move in Singapore and because of the better preparation home schooling gives for the real world. Firstly, by suggesting home schooling, we can not only improve the educational quality the children receive, but at the same time increase their awareness of the happenings around us daily as global issues can be elaborated to the young in layman terms to widen their knowledge, which could potentially improve the quality of the workforce in the future. Learning at home while being taught by their parents can enable children to be advancing at their own pace according to their own capabilities. This would thus enable optimal education as children with l
Often many children who have undergone public schooling encounter enormous difficulties during the transition period, whereas their counterparts, who have been educated at home, are better able to maintain control of the situation. This could adversely affect the number of completed business deals because of the inability to communicate in standard English with the foreign business partners and eventuate to a dip in the economic performance that would threaten Singapore's dominance of the region. Adults too, have difficulties differentiating the proper use of the language and so naturally poor grammar and erroneous sentence structures would be passed down from parents to their children during the process of learning at home. Moreover, public schooling ensures the holistic education of an individual through the many physical education lessons that is scheduled in their timetable. I have discussed the potential benefits, detriments of home schooling in Singapore and the benefits that children can enjoy in public schools. Children at home can be shielded from the unnecessary negative influence that can be of psychological harm to them when exposed to for long periods of time. As such, children would have a higher quality of education and the competitiveness of Singapore is ensured with a quality workforce in the global economy in the years to come while under the teachings of their parents. The communication with people of different age groups allows one to constantly grow mentally and not stagnate in our mindsets like what the children in public schools experience, where they are group with others that possess the same childish mindset Therefore, I strongly believe that home schooling is indeed much more positive as our young do not waste their time getting packed into a classroom filled with immature children to sing childish songs that yield no tangible benefits. Moreover, the stiff competition in schools drives children to their wits end, but with home schooling; the sanity of the younger generation is preserved as they do not have to undergo all the stressful competition with friends during tests and exams. During the course of the many activities the children have together, they are better able to communicate and bond with each other as they are not very distant in terms of their perceptions and their opinions. As a result when they go to work in the future, they are unable to cope with the increasing demands of the working society and the stress that is accompanied with their jobs while in the workforce. Researches have shown that home schooling is indeed beneficial in the long run as in the United States, '75 percent of home educated adults are enrolled in college-level courses as compared to only 46 percent of the general population'. The youths get to stay fit and not simply bury their head in books during their childhood years. Secondly, the potential benefit of home schooling in Singapore includes safety and security.
