Augustine

             We are all familiar with time. We never seem to have enough of it. It seems as though our lives would end without time. Do I have enough time to get there and back? Is time the memory we carry with us, or maybe it is simply the awareness, finally could it be the expectations that one has? All of these are true. Time is something that needs to be spoken about correctly. Augustine expresses concern he has for time and the relationship to God.
             When we think of time it seems to go on forever, like God. But wait how does God relate to time. When one thinks of God being around forever and time seems to be temporary, and how about the world? Augustine has created a lengthy and reputable meditation about all of theses questions. God is eternal, and created the world. It is important that we note that Augustine is insistent that God's eternity is not to be considered interminable. It is thought that God has no place in time at all. In fact it also is said that God did not create the world at a given time, since creation, time did not exist. I found this to be puzzling because there is that assumption that he did.
             Augustine classifies time in three specific ways. Our memory is considered to be the present of the past, the ability of direct awareness is known as a present of things in the present, and lastly he calls our expectations to be thought of as our present of things future. I like the way that he breaks time up in this way because I believe that mfor myself I never took the time to think of time in this manner. As a separate idea other than what it would seem to be. Not only is that interesting but the suggestion that all of time is simply without question simply in the mind itself and no where else.
