Asthma

Asthma is a lung disease characterized by a chronic inflammation of the airways in the lungs, which can flare up because of allergic reactions, viral infections, or exposure to irritants like smoke, pollen, and pet dander. Although some asthma episodes can be life threatening, if properly managed asthma can be controlled. As seen in many cases, the effects of asthma whether direct or indirect can have an emotional effect on the person suffering from asthma. Many people with asthma have only mild symptoms, while others can experience constant difficulty breathing. In rare cases, asthma attacks can be fatal. Asthma knows no boundaries. It effects males, females, and people of all race and color. Although asthma does not discriminate, for some unknown reason the asthma rate for females is slightly higher than for males, however, boys are more likely to have it in earlier childhood. Asthma runs in families, and effects millions of people worldwide. Looking at the respiratory system may shed more light on how asthma attacks it. Air enters through the nose and/or the mouth. It travels throughout the voice box or larynx and enters the windpipe or Trachea. The windpipe divides into branches called bronchial tubes and spread throughou

I was on a drug called singulair and allegra for my asthma and allergies. With proper treatment and monitoring, the outlook is excellent. It is controlled so that I only have to use my non-steroid inhaler when I get a cold or feel myself getting sick. By process of elimination and numerous visits to the allergist, we figured out that it was the singulair that I was taking. Symptoms can be controlled with prescription medication. I really hate going on them, however they are my only cure at this point. My mother and I knew something was wrong, but didn't realize it would have lifetime physical and emotional consequences. Changes in lung functions give an early warning of an asthma attack. The steroids made me feel hungry and irritable. I've learned to live with it because for me it's a lifestyle, not a life choice. A lung function test, which is also preformed, shows how the lungs are working and how they respond to certain treatments. When asthma strikes, something triggers an attack. Inhaling the medication can increase its effectiveness and reduce side effects. As a result of my asthma, I have had to make a change in my lifestyle.
