Global Tension: Causes analysed
At the turn of the 21st century, we can clearly see that there is an increasing trend of conflicts around the world. Conflicts are not just merely between people, but as the world moves towards globalization, we can see how two or even more countries having conflicts over several matters. There are many factors that are responsible for the conflicts of the world today, namely, territorial disputes, ideological differences, arms race, historical baggage, terrorism, religion, media and propaganda, and last but not least, competition for natural resources. Territory disputes are one of the major factors that led to global conflicts. Countries are trying to get as much as territory as they can, especially when that territory is of important usage to them. Also, territories meant national pride and the country's sovereignty. Since the ancient times, many countries have been attempting to control as many territories as they can, even if the territory does not belong to them. This can be clearly portrayed in many examples like India and Pakistan over Kashmir, Japan and South Korea over Takeshima, or Dokdo which the Koreans called, and also Singapore and Malaysia over Pedra Branca. Competition for natural resources, especially over the control of valuable oil supplies and pipeline routes has emerged as a particularly acute source of conflict in the 21st century. The recent implementation of the Anti-Secesstion law has further hamper the reunification process of Taiwan and China. This has brought about many drastic changes to the fate of countries. They are namely, territorial disputes, ideological differences, arms race, historical baggage, terrorism, religion, media and propaganda, and last but not least, competition for natural resources. It has long since become a slogan for those who doubt the value of negotiating with adversaries about weapons. At the same time, towards the north, is Taiwan and China over Taiwan's gaining of independence. The political leaders involved in international conflicts often attempt to manipulate news coverage. It is often described as a war over religious differences between Christians and Muslims, or as an effort by Christians to counter Islamic domination. The seventh cause of global conflicts is media and propaganda. We can only address such conflict if we clearly and unsentimentally acknowledge it.
