The name of the rose

In the file The name of the Rose, the monks who run the Benedictine Order Abbey recognize that knowledge can be a very dangerous thing. Knowledge can be dangerous if it says that the truth is different from what the ruling authority says is the truth. Then such knowledge can become part of a revolution in thinking that destroys what people as the truth and a revolution that destroys the power of the ruling authority had accepted. It is this conflict between two different types of knowledge and two different ways of thinking that is at the center of the "book mystery" in the film. It is the conflict between the knowledge, the truth, and the ideas that are contained in an ancient book written by the old Greek philosopher Aristotle that has just been found by the Benedictine monks and the knowledge, the truth, and the ideas of the Christian Church that the Benedictine monks support. As Brother William (Sean Connery), the monk who has come to investigate the deaths at the Abbey, says, such book are seen as dangerous by the ruling Church authorities, "because they contain a wisdom that is different from ours". The medieval Christian Church recognized how much power a book could have because Europe was "defined by Christianity, a

He uses modern technology, eye glasses, to help him in his back on it when it convicted and executed a man, "whose only crime was to have translated a Greek book that conflicted with the holy Scriptures". There was the rise of the Inquisition as the political power of the Church grew and as it tried to destroys all those who had views that were different from the Church by calling them heretics and torturing and killing them. Originally, the Benedictine Order of monks had believed that, "The sin of owning property should be entirely eradicated from the monastery". Without fear of the devil, there is no more need of God. Unlike the Benedictine monks who run the Abbey, he is a member of the Francis. It had been a common practice in the early Middle Ages for children from noble families who would inherent properties, to be given by the family to a monastic order: This system of "offering up" or oblation of children to a religious house benefited both parties. There was the conflict between the Benedictine Order and the Church which no longer accepted that they should be poor as they grew in wealth and riches, and new orders such as the Franciscans who believed that there should be a return to living a life of poverty without money and without owning property. He examines footprints and he is able to tell that the murderer carried and moved the dead body to a different place. This is why in The Name of the rose, the scriptorium, the place in which old Greeks books are hand copied, has such as important place in the monastery. However, at the same time, the Church recognizes that such books can be dangerous if the knowledge that they contain is different from the knowledge that the Church has taught is the truth. However, such knowledge was not seen as dangerous by the Church so long as its truths could be shown to be the same truths taught by the Christian Church: Aristotle understands of a just ruler or of sexual moderation agreed with Christian notions of goodness and virtue. The Name of the rose also demonstrates other types of religious and political change, especially in terms of the rise of new religious orders, the rise of different types of beliefs, and the political efforts of the Church to destroy such different beliefs through the Inquisition. surpasses the capacity of the reason, nevertheless that truth that human reason is naturally endowed to know cannot be opposed to the truth of the Christian faith". When Brother William and his young student first arrive at the Benedictine Order Abbey, the conflicts between traditional Church beliefs, "the age of faith", and the new beliefs of the developing "age of reason", as represented by Brother William become clear.
