Analysis of I have a dream

             Martin Luther King's famous speech I Have a Dream, was influenced very much by the Declaration of Independence. It also had a huge impact on American Literature. In his speech King even uses a textual reference and refers back to the Declaration of Independence, "When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and The Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir." This document also proved a huge step for colored citizens on American Literature.
             This document suggested all of the natural rights that colored citizens should have, such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Martin Luther King took a stand against the negative aspects that he faced and refused to back down. For example, "The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges." (I Have a Dream)
             The reader understands his point of view because Martin Luther King uses words that connect with the reader on a personal level, such as you and we. King is speaking to specific people on a personal level. Consider, the way Jefferson speaks to our British Brethren in The Declaration of Independence.
             He begins his speech by giving you background information on the history of his race and why they are in the position that they were in. He then continues and says how you can solve the problem and he also tries to encourage and lift everyone's spirits to change the way the "tradition" was. Also, in the Declaration of Independence, they are trying to change the way the "tradition" was.
             One major focus of King was to change the "tradition" without violence and without holding a grudge. Also he encouraged the colored citizens to never give up and to always strive to stand up for what they believe in.
