Good girls or Bad girls??
MTV has long since evolved from the all music network it once was, into a unique cultural phenomenon, capitalizing on moral misconduct and sexual corruption. Our society has so long been accustomed to watching this corruption; therefore, we now find a traditional, down to earth television show completely unique and intriguing. The hot new show on MTV, Newlyweds, featuring pop stars Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, has dazzled the world and stolen the hearts of many, with its uniqueness and tradition. Jessica and Nick have made an incredible debut as Hollywood's most loved couple. The Newlyweds have certainly portrayed sex and love in a whole new light! Although they never hide the fact that they do, of course, have a sex life, they never forget to remind their audience that they both remained virgins until marriage. The Newlyweds is a realistic journey through the everyday life of the hot new couple that can be openly enjoyed by every age group. The enjoyment of this program is due to the fact that the seemingly long-since forgotten values and morals have finally been reinforced in a marriage. Of course, morals and values are seldom found in marriages today. Furthermore Jessica Simpson is not only beautiful, sassy, and incred
" America finds Newlyweds so intriguing, simply because they offer us a different point of view than what most television today offers us. Nevertheless, we all know that the good girl is extremely hard to come by today, especially in a society so corrupted by sex, drugs, and lies. It would show them that, beyond all the corruption of our society, we still have a little integrity and moralistic value. One night Nick went to Playboy Mansion against Jessica's wishes, wich, in turn, caused an argument. Similarly, Nick does the yard work, cleans the outside of the house, and fixes things around the home, taking on the male role. Then the outsider could actually get a glimpse of a sacred marriage and a traditional lifestyle. Jessica Simpson definitely fits well into each of these categories, proving clearly that she is the modern day "good girl. spunky, virginal, and busy with purposeful activity" (467). Beyond all of their luxuries they still take on the responsibilities of the male and female role in the household and the marriages. Thus, the Newlyweds definitely gives us that little spark of hope. Loh hopes that beyond all of our society's corruption, "Maybe there is a place called Hope" (470).
