Persuasive essay
It was a beautiful bright sunny Wednesday morning, as I reached over to turn off the alarm clock. My shower was quite refreshing, and breakfast was delicious. Chocolate covered pancakes were moving slowly down my throat, and the feeling was amazing. I turned to the clock on the wall, jumped up, and grabbed my school bag as I raced out the door. Got into the car, and in a matter of minutes I was entering Columbine High School. Friends were greeting me left and right. I was moving from class to class in the excitement for the day to end because I am going to go to Florida for the week. Finally, I enter the cafeteria, as the smell of freshly fried French fries swarmed towards me. One, two, three, shots were fired in all directions. I jumped up in the air while throwing my Lays potato chips across the table. While running for the door, I turned around and saw my best friend lying on the lunchroom floor dead. Bursting with tears, I ran for my life bumping into so many people on the way out, but I was lucky because I was not shot. Witnessing people being shot was the biggest tragedy in my life, and I do not know how I was brave enough to go through all of this. As I was sitting by the fireplace that night, I was thinking
There have been many calls for more stringent gun control due to several mass-shootings that have taken place in schools and workplaces. Accidental shooting occur when there is on restriction on the use of guns, which causes the public to be fearful every time they step out to go somewhere. Other opponents of gun control, such as the powerful National Rifle Association, say that Congress should not impose any more restrictions on gun owners, because it violated the Second Amendment. I sit and think everyday about how stricter gun control laws will change the way people think and react to everyday situations. The media is constantly spitting out criminal offenses dealing with guns, and listening to such news causes many people to be fearful and they tend to lack confidence. 4 per 100,000 in 1993, experts believe that with more stricter gun control laws there will be a greater decrease in the number of deaths relating to guns. All of these tragic massacres and statistics should push congress to consider passing tougher gun control laws. This country needs to bring back a feeling of safety and security by passing stricter and affective gun laws. The government should issue gun control because according to a 1998 study by the CDC, the United States ranks first in gun-related death among the world's 36 richest nations. How can the government hear all these things in the news and not take any action? How selfish can they be? The government needs to strive to make this country safe for everyone because the public does not have bodyguards like them. Some people believe that stricter gun controls will label a threat to the Constitution's Second Amendment, which protects the right to bear arms, it will take away the right to protect oneself, and many believe that the government ought to focus on prosecuting people using crime laws that are already written. For example, in April 1999, the public was startled when a pair of teenagers stormed through their high school with high powered guns, killing 12 of their classmates and one teacher before killing themselves. Supporters of the current legislation also say that the child-safety measures will help keep children from using guns that belong to their parents. The government should issue the gun control law because it will decrease the number of deaths and create a feeling of security and safety by limiting the number of guns on the street. According to the CDC, in 1997, 306 people aged 19 and under were killed in accidental shootings.
