The differences in faith

             Science as defined in the chapter is based on inductive reasoning: from observations made in the past, the scientist draws conclusions about the laws and theories that will operate in the future. That said there are few similarities between scientists who take "on faith" as the assumption that the future will be like the past and the believer who takes "on faith" the assumptions of religion.
             Scientists in general make observations to form conclusions. Simple observations from past decades that have repeated themselves leave the conclusions that the past repeats itself. However, not all things from the past have repeated themselves. Most things from the past are a continuation of those past events. We will never have another Vietnam War but we will fight wars with new enemies. We will never again see Martin Luther King Jr. speak at a civil rights movement but there will be other activists with a purpose and audience to serve. Scientists believe that things must be observed for them to have a real conclusion. Science is based on inductive reasoning about observations made in the past. Religious beliefs on the other hand are just based on faith.
             Religion does not parallel science. Faith from a religious point of view in its origin cannot be observed. Events that are recorded in the Bible that took place thousands of years ago such as the creation of earth by God and the birth of Christ are events that cannot be observed but merely taken as a faith based truth. Faith from a religious point of view says that everything that is written in the Bible is true. Therefore as a believer Christ returning to earth and taking believers back to heaven with him will happen. It is not an assumption of inductive conclusions; it is the belief that the writings in the bible are absolute truth.
