The Great Gatzby

The Great Gatsby is a story, told through an observer, about a man's trials and tribulations who tries to regain what he had in the past. The whole focus of the story is on Gatsby's dream, his desire to rekindle the flames of a previous fire. Daisy, the fire, is along for the ride. A ride that contains many twists and turns that only lead to corruption. Nick, the narrator of the story, has just moved from the Midwest to New York. Knowing that Nick is the narrator, it is important to realize that some of the things he says or feels could be swayed by his own emotions. Also living in New York and near to Nick's house is the Buchanans. Tom Buchanan is an acquaintance from Nick's days in college and Daisy is Nick's cousin. Nick's move is going very smoothly and his cousin is getting him used to the high-class lifestyle. Being from a middle class society Nick, at times, enjoys the elegant parties that are thrown almost every day. At Daisy's house is where Nick is informed about Tom's affair. Jordan, Daisy's friend, catches Nick up on the latest gossip and hopes Nick would be able to help the situation. Jordan also asks about Nick's neighbor, Gatsby, whom he has not yet met but decides to later on.

Nick jumps ahead of the game and accelerates the drama. Possibly venting her anger at Tom's behavior. Nick begins to question the authenticity of his and Gatsby's relationship. Gatsby and Daisy decide to leave the hotel and head for home. Daisy's actions after Gatsby's death proved that she was with Gatsby only for his money. Nick realizes the moment and decides to leave the two alone. Daisy says she loves Gatsby but Tom thinks nothing of it. Not satisfied with the information he received during their short conversation, Nick returns to another party at Gatsby's. Along the way they pick up Myrtle, Tom's second lover, and head off to another party. By wondering through the party he meets Gatsby and chats for a while. Tom realizes Daisy's change of heart and he immediately dislikes Gatsby. It shows how Gatsby completely failed in achieving what he wanted. Nick is finally introduced to his neighbor in chapter 3. Gatsby's driver invited Nick to a party at Gatsby's house. On the way home Daisy was driving very carelessly and at a fast pace.
