Censorship

             As the reach of the media has grown in today's society, information and entertainment is readily available on demand at anytime in most places of the globe. The Internet, as well as other forms of traditional media devices such as newspapers, radio and television, has become a common sight across the world. With this proliferation of media devices, comes the rapid influx of all kinds of information, be it true or false, useful or useless. As much of this uncontrolled information may be deemed unacceptable to society by the various censorship boards of all the different countries of the world, censorship would definitely come into place. Censorship of the media is not completely effective in today's society. Censorship may be easily imposed on government or corporate controlled media outlets such as newspapers and radio talk shows. Yet the same cannot be said of the Internet. With the billions of new sites popping up daily, it is impossible to bar access to every single one containing undesirable information or content. Secondly, even if traditional forms of media are censored, people who want access to the uncensored original content will still be able to obtain it easily due to the presence of piracy. In addition, some rules that forbid users below the age of eighteen to have access to such sites may not be enforced. Lastly, while information may indeed be censored, there is still a question of whether the information should be censored in the first place for censorship of new or radical ideas may well mean that society would not be able to change quickly enough to suit the future's demands.
             As one can easily see, blood and gore is often censored on television or even at the movies. For example, when we see reports on the war in Iraq on television, we are never shown footage of the actual fighting; we never get the see actual soldiers getting killed by a spray of bullets, screaming as they bleed to death...
