Death of salesman
In the play Death of Salesman by Arthur Miller, the main character, Willy Lowman, is a struggling salesman and hard-working man. Willy Lowman is a complex character that his mind never settles down, maybe too tired by traveling alone. Willy believes that being well-liked and having a personal attractiveness can bring success, friends and money. Willy is a stubborn character in the whole play. Therefore, he encounters many problems throughout his life and ends in tragic death. As time goes, things are changing and need to be changed, even people. Some people need to grow up to be more mature when they are getting old. In the beginning of the play, Willy exists in the past, up to present. Willy Lowman is already a stubborn character because he rejects his wife's offering American cheese instead of Swiss cheese. Willy didn't give himself a chance to try something new and fresh cheese. Willy can't think through what people survive in this world for. That's all! (Page 133)" Biff shows that he doesn't care about the amount of money he earns. The grass don't grow any more, you can't raise a carrot in the back yard. Biff said, "Pop I'm nothing! I'm nothing Pop! Can't you understand that? There's no spite in it anymore. The play has real world problem, which is lack of money. I've been meaning to tell you a long time now! (Page 83)" When Willy first heard this from his boss, he can't believe he got fired and seem unacceptable. If he realizes the meaning of surviving in this world, he wouldn't go to suicide. His problems where caused of American Dream. Biff defines himself what he wants to be and his own idea of success and takes control of his life. Maybe when he's younger, he was able to sell a lot. When he reaches to the point where he no longer handles working, he doesn't understand that he should be retired and give up his dream. Willy lived everyday of his life trying to become successful, well-known salesman.
