My Trailblazing Experience

             My Uncle Jack lives on a ranch in Whitehall, Montana. Whitehall is located along I-90 and is located between the beautiful national parks of Glacier and Yellowstone and is not far from Virginia City, which is Montana's most famous and historical city. Whitehall is two miles from the Jefferson River and is found along the Lewis and Clark Trail. Uncle Jack's property is surrounded by National Forest land on three sides and borders the Tobacco Root mountain range. I try to visit my Uncle Jack every summer. While visiting, I almost always have a great time riding horses, mucking stalls, and providing general help on the ranch. My trip last summer proved to be a totally different kind of experience. What started out as a fun-filled trailblazing experience into the Tobacco Root Mountains, turned into a harrowing experience.
             The airplane flight to Montana went smoothly and I was excited and anxious to see my uncle and begin riding. The first few days of the trip were fun, but the trip soon turned sour. My mother, who is afflicted with asthma, became sick and had to make a run to the emergency room of a local hospital. My uncle and I were shaken to think of the medical danger she was in so soon after arriving. The doctors discovered she had pneumonia, prescribed antibiotics and told her to take it easy for a few days. It is rumored that one or both, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, are members of my ancestral tree. Fancying myself an explorer like my ancestors, I was really looking forward to riding into the mountains. I was very disappointed that our planned trailblazing trip into the mountains was now in jeopardy of being cancelled.
             One warm sunny morning my mother, who can be very stubborn, arose and convinced my brother that she was perfectly capable of surviving the ride. We got busy planning a one-night camping trip into the mountains. Our personal supplies needed for the journey included: stur
