Physical & Biological Resources Derived from Oceans

The oceans provide modern society with numerous resources. For centuries the ocean has provided humans with things such as food, clothing, shelter materials, and a way of transportation. In today's world more than half of the resources that humans use are derived from the ocean. The oceans and seas of the world provide countless amounts of physical and biological resources. These resources include mineral deposits, oil and gas, electrical energy, food from marine animals and plants, transportation and recreation. Unfortunately many types of marine resources have been mismanaged and over-exploited, and their future sustainability is uncertain. There are two main categories of resources that are derived from the ocean. Biological resources are marine animals and plants harvested for food and other uses. Physical resources are of non-living resources that are harvested. Both biological and physical resources play an important role in everyday life. There are many physical resources that are derived from the oceans. Some resources include petroleum (crude oil), gases, and minerals. Petroleum and natural gases form from the buried remains of marine plankton. Petroleum and natural gas pumped from

It was in the ocean where life began, and unfortunately it looks like life will also end with the ocean. Your computer is made at a factory that probably burns some form of oil or gas to make the computer parts. Oil and gas cause the most amounts of pollution and problems in today's world. The factors that mix and form these minerals drastically pollute the areas they are located it both by vents and plumage. Along with fish, natural populations of the clams as well as those of other shellfish are declining, and are almost completely gone from certain areas. Almost 90 percent of marine protein is presently derived from coastal areas. Marine mammals often get caught in nets, without being noticed, along with their prey. An example is the commercial fishing industry. Just a few minerals derived from the oceans are sands, gravel, methane hydrates, magnesium, salt, phosphorites, cobalt, nickel, zinc, copper, lead, silver, gold, cadmium, and maganese. Aquaculture, sea grasses, is another major industry. The car you drive runs on motor oil and gas. This happens most commonly with whales, dolphins, and seals.
