Death Penalty

Even though the Bible states one should turn the other cheek, it also states punishment should be "An eye for an eye," and "A tooth for a tooth." Capital punishment has been around since the beginning of time, and it will probably be around until the end. The Supreme Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional under the eighth and fourteenth amendments in 1972. It was said to be capricious and arbitrary, but it was reinstated in 1976. The death penalty is not a reasonable punishment for murder. The death penalty should be abolished. The death penalty is somewhat supported in the Bible, but it is also somewhat opposed in the Bible too. Everybody has heard the commandment, "Thou shall not kill." Point blank God said killing is not prohibited in any way, shape, or form. In Biblical times the punishment for any crime was automatically death. Society has long since left behind the archaic and barbarous customs from the cruel eye for an eye era. The death penalty has always been a religious punishment and is reconcilable with humanism, but that doesn't condone it. Quote from Ja

The death penalty is inhumane, and should be abolished. Anyone can do the math and see life in prison is more humane and least expensive. It seems the state is more dedicated to vengeance that to truth and justice. Prisons let the murderer compensate to the victims' family. ) Although laws governing the application of the death penalty have undergone many changes since biblical times, the punishment still endures. In the criminal justice system, the life of a white person is more valuable than the life of a black person. The death penalty has been around as a part of the criminal justice system since the beginning of time, but it shouldn't be around until the end of it. ) Until human judgement becomes infallible, this problem alone is reason enough to abolish the death penalty. That's twenty-three people too many. Innocents can be and have been executed as well. It's also evident, a person can do more alive, than dead. Would society allow rape to be the penalty for rape, or the burning of arsonists' homes for the penalty of arson? No, they wouldn't. Quote from Mary Sue Terry, an Attorney General of Virginia, "Evidence of innocence is irrelevant. Each execution costs the state at least two million dollars, and that's per case. Prisons also cost less money anyway.
