Technology

Technology has built society up to what it is today in many ways, shapes, and forms. It has offered countless numbers of jobs to people, and over the past 10 years or so has made its way into people’s homes. It is somewhat evident that technology and is geared toward higher-class families. Technology revolves around money, and the upper class has an advantage in that respect. A trip to any public library will grant you access to an internet-equipped computer. Looking for jobs online is easy but you can also do it the old-fashioned way by looking in the newspaper, among other ways. Also, there is a large portion of the upper class that has no idea about any of today’s technology. But I feel that it is not true, since almost all work that is demanded from students on a computer can be accessed by anyone, one way or another. They can afford to buy a computer, and teach their families how to use it.

The lower class is at a disadvantage with technology, but with an effort they can access pretty much anything that more wealthy people can. Also, to say that more technologically-oriented students have an unfair advantage in getting better grades is also a matter of opinion. In developing lower-class areas, the government has brought new computers into the schools so that children can become associated with them at a young age.

I would not agree that the lower class is an entire generation behind in respect to education. In conclusion, the upper class has an advantage in today’s technology with acquiring the newest and most expensive, up-to-date items, but with an effort, the lower class can access everything that they need to become successful. I feel that that would be caused by a lack of interest and done upon themselves. As a tutor in a computer class at a middle school in North Philadelphia, I helped children learn how to type, use word processors, and the internet, among many other basic functions of today’s computers. This may also give an advantage when looking for employment, pertaining to certain jobs, but not all of today’s jobs run on the most up-to-date technology.
