Stem cells bring new hope for life

             There is a new hope for the world and it comes in the form of embryotic stem cells. These tiny little miracles are the hope for the future. Scientists say they expect that someday many incurable diseases will be cured by stem cells. These wonder cells will end the suffering of millions. One day in the future doctors will be able to grow new kidneys and hearts, replace brain tissue, and send specially designed cells into the body to destroy disease and cancer. Never again will a mother be subjected to sit by and watch as her child faces the pain of death from a life threatening disease. These are only a few of the miracles that stem cells promise us and many more are still to come, but this promise for the future has been brought under debate and the research process has been slowed due to political and religious issues on how the cells are harvested. We can only pray that these issues are resolved so that the needless suffering of many can be lifted.
             One of the major opposers of the miracle of stem cell research is the Catholic Church, one of the issues they are debating is said to be that by collecting the stem cells from embryos they are destroying a life. Well, I guess that would depend on your version of where life begins. The Bible says that we begin life with our first breath "The Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life: and man became a living being" (Gen. 2:7). No where in the Bible does it talk about conception as the beginning of life. The idea that all potential human life is human life and that life began at conception began with Pope John Paul II, the current Pope. This is where the rights of the unborn began or what some would call the right to life movement.
