Many people have different ways of relaxing after a hard day at the office or work place. Some people go out for a drink or a movie and others just come home and relax in front of the television. But more people today are looking other places for a way to relax that is more involved with power of faith and understanding. Though it has been around for hundreds of years, many are coming to the practice of Tantra to help them relax and obtain a better understanding of life and existence itself. That is the purpose of this paper, to inform the reader on the origin and the belief of Tantra. This paper will also clarify the practices and positions of Tantra for the person who would like to begin a Tantric lifestyle. It will also determine the differences between the popular practice of Yoga from the forms of Tantra. Before one can begin to practice such a life changing belief, one must know exactly what it is. Tantra is a mystical practice to so many people that it is often difficult to give a true definition (Douglas). Being (sat), Consciousness (cit) and Bliss (ananda) is the major part of the self awareness that Tantra requires (Feuerstein, 74). The Tantric way of life involves heavy meditation, body manipulation and concentration to cleanse the mind and reach enlightenment(Yeshe, 3). Any comfortable position is acceptable. Tantric highly involves self- awareness and purification of ones self in order to engage in the enlightenment that comes from practicing Tantra. Through body positions and concentrated breathing between the male and female, both can experience a longer- lasting, more orgasmic event (Lacroix). Yoga also helps with the mind as well. By practicing Tantra one can reach such an extreme peace and enlightenment within themselves that everything else that is wrong in the world really doesn’t matter (Yeshe, 2). In order for a person to meditate correctly like any other activity, they must be instructed on the right techniques and frame of mind (Simpkins, 89- 90). With Tantra a person can become more relax and less anxious in their everyday life. Though the Tantric way of life is an unbelievable way of life, one must understand where it came from to get to the full experience of the practice. To the right you will see a position more geared to the female stimulation and excitement. Many people get caught up in the rush of work and home life that they forget about what is really going on and what they really need. The purification of one’s body happens mentally.
